Banks have long been important backers of private equity funds. However, recent changes to legislation in the US and Europe have seen many banks rethink their private equity strategies and a number have opted to sell stakes in funds on the secondary market.

In order to assess the impact of Basel III and the Volcker Rule on banks' plans for future investments in the asset class, Preqin conducted interviews with more than 50 banks, asking them about the impact of new regulations and their plans for future investments.
