Private equity portfolio boosts CalPERS’ returns
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System’s (CalPERS) private equity and fixed income investments both earned a 12.4 per cent return last year, offsetting largely disappointing results from the California state pension giant’s public equity portfolio. CalPERS’ private equity and fixed income investments both earned the fund a 12.4 per cent return. Real estate investments returned nearly ten per cent, while inflation- linked assets earned 8.4 per cent. The fund posted a 7.9 per cent loss in its public equity asset classes. Its US equity portfolio lost 0.03 per cent, while its international equity assets declined 13.9 per cent, citing the high volatility of global equity markets as the cause of the results. Source
