Business Angel of the Year

Through their experience, network and risk capital, Business Angels form an important basis for the realisation of innovative ideas of high potential start-up companies. They are committed to being mentors of the emerging industries and are providing a necessary foundation for the long term, successful development of an economy.

Up to now, the Business Angel culture in Switzerland has established itself with hesitation. Through the Business Angel of The Year Initiative and the publicly held annual Election of the Swiss Business Angel of The Year we would like to contribute to further network integration of Swiss Business Angels in order to advance the investment into innovative high-growth companies of this country.

David Studer

Seit dem mehrstufigen Verkauf der Aktienmehrheit seines ICT-Startups Xovis AG an Private Equity Investoren im Jahr 2016 investiert David Studer aktiv in Schweizer early-stage Startups. Dabei kennt er die Gründer-Perspektive aus eigener Erfahrung und sieht sich als Sparring Partner der Gründer. Durch seine langjährige Tätigkeit als CEO kann er zudem bei den typischen Startup- Wachstumsschmerzen seine operative Erfahrung einbringen.

Gian Reto à Porta

The Swiss fintech entrepreneur of the first hour convinced the jury with his commitment as a networker and successful angel investor in Swiss scaleups. Since the sale of his fintech startup Contovista in 2017, he is actively investing in early-stage startups.

Dr. Cornelia Gut-Villa

Cornelia is the managing director of the foundation Startfeld since 2014 which finances young enterprises in the eastern part of Switzerland. She is also a board member of the Swiss ICT Investor Club (SICTIC), which is the largest and most active investor club in Switzerland. As of mid 2021 she’s privately invested in more than ten startups.

Dr. Christian Wenger

Over the past thirty years, Christian Wenger has made a name for himself not only as a farsighted and restless "pusher" in the stony Swiss venture capital market but also as an investor. Demanding and supportive, he has thus contributed to the success of numerous of his more than thirty commitments. Christian Wenger is a partner in the law firm Wenger & Vieli AG. He holds a doctorate from the University of Zurich and an LL.M. from Duke University Law School in North Carolina.

Nicolas Bürer
